Community Food Shop

The S2 Community Food Shop was first opened in June 2023. It is not a supplier of emergency food parcels. Instead it offers longer-term support, with members contributing towards the cost of the shopping and engaging, where appropriate, with the debt and benefit services. Members can remain part of the community for as long as they meet the criteria. The Community Food Shop is open Wednesday and Thursday 10am-2pm and everyone using the shop is given a time slot to attend..

Membership

To become a member you must live within a S1, S2 or S12 post code area and be sign-posted from the S2 Food Bank. Members make a cash contribution to their shopping by paying a weekly subscription of £4, which can be paid in advance. As a member you will be allocated a day and a time to shop. Member’s subscriptions are reinvested into the scheme.

Debt Advice

You will be offered debt advice from a Community Money Advice mentor. This is essential for you to continue as a member of the community shop.

Benefit Advice

An appointment with the benefit worker will ensure all benefits are claimed and in order for you to receive this support you must continue as a member of the community shop.

Shop Items

We have a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, eggs, dairy items, bread, tinned/dried food as well as  personal care items.  We ask members to provide their own shopping bags. Additional items, such as luxury goods and cleaning items are also available for a small charge.
